Besides appointments with a GP, we offer a wide range of NHS primary care services for our registered patients. Our services include health promotion and advice on:
- Exercise, weight, smoking, blood pressure and other general health matters
- Childhood immunisations
- Wound care, dressings and removal of stitches
- long-term conditions such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension and other conditions
- Cervical smears
- etc., etc.
Health checks
If you are a patient aged between 16 – 75, you can request a health check if you haven’t been seen for 3 years. Patients over the age of 75 can request a health check annually.
NHS health check
If you are aged between 40 – 74 and have no existing health problems you will be invited for a Health Check. This is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. You will be asked some simple questions about your life style, we will record your height , weight, age, sex & ethnicity. We will take your blood pressure and do some simple blood tests to check your cholesterol and kidney function. Please ask at reception if you are interested.
Family planning
All doctors are happy to advise on family planning. Unfortunately, due to changes to local service contracts, we can no longer provide services for IUDs (coils) and implants. The Practice Nurses administer Depo Provera injections.
We also encourage competent young persons to seek help and advice in a confidential setting. Ask at reception for details.
Antenatal clinics
As our practices sit in two separate midwifery localities, arrangements depend on which site is your usual / registered (Allerton or Westfield).
At Allerton Medical Centre, there are appointments on site on Fridays, though your midwife can book your appointments at various other locations. Please call to book via our team, or contact your midwife directly.
