Update on appointments and self-care

Our team are working very hard to try and meet demand for appointments, but it is currently higher than we have ever seen before, for both same-day and advance bookings. We share your frustrations at this situation.

At the moment, we receive over 2,000 calls a week and 50-80 requests for on-the-day appointments daily. We continue to offer the option to book ahead but there is currently around a 4-week wait.

If you possibly can, please use e-consult on the website or contact NHS111 for advice before calling the practice as it may be that your issue can be dealt with by someone else, such as a community pharmacist.

We are currently working with NHS England to review our appointments system but the reality is that demand far exceeds the number of appointments we can offer. We need to prioritise care for patients who are clinically most at risk.

Most minor illnesses are self-limiting and will get better with time. We have updated the Self Care section of our website with useful information to help those with symptoms of minor illnesses. This includes information on how long you can expect them to last and when you need to contact 111 or the GP.
